8pmABC’s Pushing Daisies, blah blah blah.  Mere episodes are left of the creative show, so you could ride it out until the cliffhanger (yippie!), or go with The New Adventures of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried on CBSJulia Louis-Dreyfus is one of the few pretty ladies with the comedic chops to match, and Jay Mohr stars with Paula Marshall and Jaime King… both of whom have been naked on cable and film, so kudos to him.

9pmLife on NBC stars Sarah Shahi.  In most episodes, she happens to be in various states of undress.  Think – the second coming of Eva Longoria, minus the hype and annoying.

Sarah Shahi is not shy

Sarah Shahi is not shy

10pm – Can’t wait ’til Jay Leno’s new show starts!  Not really… but there isn’t any crap on except for Law & Snoreder on NBC and Dirty Sexy Money Pit on ABC.  Do anything else instead.

SNL Real-Time Blog

11:30 – Cold Open: Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State – Yay!  Amy Poehler’s back!  Barack Obama winning slam: check.  Sarah Palin dig: check.  Hillary’s chuckle: check.  Bill: check.  Happy days are here again!

11:35 – For John Malkovich’s third time hosting, he read Twas the Night Before Christmas, complete with dark and honest asides, such as descibing how in reality, Santa would burst into flames trying to fly around the world so fast.  Chuckle inducing.

11:41Gas Right Commercial30 Rock (which is loosely based on the idea of SNL) always makes jokes about how they use too many fart jokes in their skits.  Guess what this skit’s about.

11:45 – Work Birthday Party – Let me start by saying this: Kristen Wiig is like in every skit.  So we’ll began the Wiig Counter at 1.  In this one, she plays the hot bimbo in the office that loses her sex appeal bit by bit.  I’ll finish by saying this: her comedy chops improve on a weekly basis.  She’s come a long way since the Joe Schmo Show.

11:52Obama Cool Cat Ad – He keeps it cool.  Funny.  Liked this one a lot.

11:57La Rivista Della TelevisioneMalkovich is on an Italian talk show and can’t speak it.  Simple, but good.  New guy whose name I don’t know made me laugh in this one.

12:02Digital Short: Virgania Horsen’s Pony ExpressKristen goes solo on this short, if you don’t count the guest appearances by herself.  Wiig Counter: 2 (not counting multiple Wiigs)

12:04Christmas Twins – I’ve never seen a calculator joke go on for so long, but somehow it still kinda works… mostly because it’s short.

12:11T.I.’s first song.  I’m indifferent.

12:17Weekend Update – Again, yay AmyPlaxico Burress (Kenan Thompson) warns about the dangers of wearing sweatpants and concealing guns.  Boy George (Fred Armison) couldn’t keep a straight face (no pun intended).  And a different nine-year old boy has better tips on getting girls – like using cocaine.

12:34Lost Works of Judy Blume: GertieMalkovich plays Gertie, the crazy mutant girl that has her period for three months, foams at the mouth and blacks out when she thinks of cute boys, and is growing a tail… Overall, a pretty funny skit about a pretty ugly girl.  Kenan Thompson’s song even made me smile.  Wiig Counter: 3, Abby Elliott Counter: 1  😦

12:42Digital Short: Jizz in my Pants – Molly Sims, Jamie Lynn Sigler, and Justin Timberlake guest star in  the second great short that’s sure to be a classic… it may not reach Lazy Sunday or Dick in a Box heights, but at least the level of Natalie Portman’s rap and Iran So FarJorma Taccone is the other Dude.

12:49 – Rocking hip hop by T.I.  I kinda like it.

12:54Dangerous Liaison Redux: J’accuzzi – French aristocrats in a hot tub.  Throw away final skit that isn’t awful, but not super funny.  J’silly.

8pm – There’s nothing to be done for ABC’s Pushing Daisies except to say: buy the Season 2 DVD next year.  That having been said, you have your pick of Christmas retread-itions (NBC lights up their 30 Rock tree and CBS lights up Rudolph’s nose).  Or you can check out Fox’s Secret Millionaire.

According to Fox’s site:

Each week, one of the wealthiest Americans, worth millions of dollars, will go undercover into one of the most impoverished and dangerous towns in America. Their job is to spend one week canvassing the town – meeting as many people as possible – some of whom will touch the millionaire with their dedication to helping others while others will have incredible stories of trying to overcome tremendous odds. On the final day, the Secret Millionaire meets with the chosen recipients and reveals his/her true identity and intentions – to give them a sum of money that is going to change their lives forever.

Unless the Secret Millionaires are Mark Cuban, Bill Gates, or Donald Trump – not interested.  But if there’s a possibility for a mugging…

9pm – If you’re interested in the Grammy’s, then CBS is for you.  They’ll announce the nominees and Celine Dion will perform.  If you’re interested in Grammy’s… you have a problem.

10pm – To the opposite end of the spectrum: Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.  On CBSVictoria’s Secret.  Fashion Show.  What part of this are you not getting?

Secret Santas

Secret Santas

Much better than Secret Millionaires, indeed.

8pm – While the pull of nostalgia is strong over at ABC (they’re playing, um, Shrek the Halls and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!), upChuck is brand new on NBC, so you might want to look there.  Is it just me, or doesn’t Chuck seem to be a bit too old to be playing store clerk/spy?  And doesn’t it seem convenient how often he gets “flashes” right before they need them?

9pm – It must be NBC’s lucky day.  Heroes is a must-see.  It’s not often enough you get to see a train wreck in action.  Hiro is going to get his memory back via comic books.  Brilliant!

10pm – The final bone is being thrown to ABC’s Boston Legal as it nears the end of its five-season run.  Betty White guest stars, plus Captain Kirk comes to terms with his impending Alzheimer’s.  Oh, the laughs to be had…

(For more Slave Leia’s than you can shake a lightsaber at, click here.)

Yvonne Strahovski... and that guy who plays Chuck.

Sunday’s TV Picks

Let’s begin with an apology.  With the hectsticity that is Thanksgiving weekend (yes, hectsticity is a made up word, but it works, right?), the opportunity to cover Saturday’s TV picks fell to the waist-side (pun intended).  So without further adieu, here’s tonight’s TV selections:

8pm – If you’re watching the football game on NBC, then none of this matters.  If you’re not, it’s a toss-up bewteen the Emmy award-winning Amazing Race on CBS and the tear-jerking Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC.  I dare you to watch a commerical for Home Makeover and not have your eyes water up.  And besides that, I think the show’s name should get a makeover to simply Home MakeoverExtreme is so blase, and also to note, it was a spin-off of a crappy show about plastic surgery.  It wasn’t quite as bad as The Swan, but what is?  (Answer: MTV’s I Want a Famous Face, natch)

9pm – Hmmm…. a lot of tough match-ups here.  A rerun of Fox’s Family Guy or a rerun of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU?  Then there’s also a new episode of ABC’s Desperate Housewives or a new episode of CBS’s Cold Case?  Turn on the remainder of the Bears vs. Vikings game, or else you’re left with Steve Irwin vs. the CIA (Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course on the CW).

10pm – Go with The Unit on CBS and watch President Palmer do something other than hock Allstate.  Or just finish watching the game.

Pre-Annoying Eva Longoria

Friday’s TV Picks

8pmThe Incredibles is on NBC, so it’s an easy choice, even though they cut out all the sex and nudity for broadcast tv, which is what made it so awesome.  What?  Oh, I’m thinking of The Inbedibles.  As they say in Canada, “Sorry!”  (Emphasis on the “o.”)

9pm – What are you still reading for?  There’s nothing else worth watching except The Incredibles!  Anyone that might enjoy the subtle homoeroticism of WWE Friday Night SmackDown on MyNetwork might be dazzled by the gayness that is The Polar Express on ABC, so there’s a conundrum for those folks at 8pm.  But if you like Chris Rock (The CW), Jack Black (Fox), or Jennifer Love Hewitt’s tits (CBS), your path has already been chosen.  There is no swaying you.

10:30pm – After The Incredibles, you can stay tuned and catch the second half of The Office’s season opener (which is a standalone episode), or if you’re a Hollywood whackjob like Madonna or (let’s be honest) Angelina Jolie, you can flip over to ABC and watch the second half of 20/20 – it’s about adopting foreign babies.  If you can’t stick foreign objects in places they don’t belong, why bother?

8pm– Wow.  I can’t believe it.  It’s finally here.  It feels like I’ve been waiting fortyever (that’s ten regular forevers).  Not.  Rosie Live is on NBCROSIE O’DONNELL IS BACK ON TV!  Consider this karma because not enough of you assholes have been watching Pushing Daisies on ABC, and it’s going away.  Let me repeat that.  Pushing Daisies is getting cancelled – Rosie O’Donnell gets a fucking variety show.  I don’t care that they’re not on the same network, it’s still crap forty sure.

9pm– Let’s just stick with the suckfest that is everything NBC (except for their awesome Thursday night lineup).  Deal or No Deal has some idiot who couldn’t pull out quick enough THIRTEEN TIMES.  I bet he’s going to pick numbers real good.

10pm – On ABC, the Barbara Walters Special features an interview with President-Elect Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle.  If you happened to watch NBC for the previous two hours, I’d suggest getting a jump on your Thanksgiving dinner tonight by downing a bottle of Drano.

Uh... um... still not watching

Tuesday’s TV Picks

8pmABC is hosting A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.  It’s probably painful to watch as an adult, but if you’re willing to try, make sure you watch the above clip before the show starts.  Guaranteed warm fuzzy feelings.

9pm – Or actually, 9:08pm (Fox extended House to capture the crowd that tunes into Dancing with the Stars for just the dazzling opening)… The Mentalist is on CBS.  I know nothing about this show, but I do know it was rated the best new show by critics… or something like that.  Welcome to TV is my IV – where we make this shit up as we go along.  Moving along…

10pmLaw & Order: Special Victims Unit is on NBC.  There’s a Detective named Benson on this show?  Benson?  I loved that show as a kid!  Did you know it was a spin-off of Soap?  And wasn’t Robert Guillaume awesome on Sports Night?  I miss that show.

8pm – On ABC, the two-night season finale of Dancing with the Stars begins.  Prediction: they will drag this process out as long as possible.  Winner: not us.

8:30pm – Not a lot of love has been shown for CBS’s How I Met Your Mother, so here it is now.  At is a pleasantly funny show.  (Notice the word hilarious was not used, mind you.)  Suggestion: pop over to this show if DWTS, Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, or NBC’s Chuck sucks.

9pmNBC’s Heroes.  Check out the questions Matt Roush from TV Guide had to face.  They’re not too tough.  They’re not too insightful.  It’s just better than watching the show.

10pm – Go to bed early.  Get through work on Tuesday.  Drink yourself silly when you get home tomorrow.  Go to work hungover on Wednesday.  Drink immediately after work to get rid of hangover.  Long weekend, here we come!

Not A Bad Night For SNL

After last week’s mehpisode, this week Saturday Night Live stepped up its game.  Considering Tim McGraw was the host (as opposed to Justin Timberlake who no doubt had to back out in order to stay in bed with Jessica Biel), the show made me laugh.  The cold open about the Big Three Bailout was a highlight (which was on Hulu, but seems to have disappeared), as was Michaela Watkins debut as Arianna Huffington.

Here’s an always awesome Kristen Wiig highlight:

Also, where’s more Abby Elliot?!  And get rid out that stupid waiter character by that new guy I don’t think I like!
