Monday’s TV Picks

8pm – While the pull of nostalgia is strong over at ABC (they’re playing, um, Shrek the Halls and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!), upChuck is brand new on NBC, so you might want to look there.  Is it just me, or doesn’t Chuck seem to be a bit too old to be playing store clerk/spy?  And doesn’t it seem convenient how often he gets “flashes” right before they need them?

9pm – It must be NBC’s lucky day.  Heroes is a must-see.  It’s not often enough you get to see a train wreck in action.  Hiro is going to get his memory back via comic books.  Brilliant!

10pm – The final bone is being thrown to ABC’s Boston Legal as it nears the end of its five-season run.  Betty White guest stars, plus Captain Kirk comes to terms with his impending Alzheimer’s.  Oh, the laughs to be had…

Yvonne Strahovski... and that guy who plays Chuck.

8pm – On ABC, the two-night season finale of Dancing with the Stars begins.  Prediction: they will drag this process out as long as possible.  Winner: not us.

8:30pm – Not a lot of love has been shown for CBS’s How I Met Your Mother, so here it is now.  At is a pleasantly funny show.  (Notice the word hilarious was not used, mind you.)  Suggestion: pop over to this show if DWTS, Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, or NBC’s Chuck sucks.

9pmNBC’s Heroes.  Check out the questions Matt Roush from TV Guide had to face.  They’re not too tough.  They’re not too insightful.  It’s just better than watching the show.

10pm – Go to bed early.  Get through work on Tuesday.  Drink yourself silly when you get home tomorrow.  Go to work hungover on Wednesday.  Drink immediately after work to get rid of hangover.  Long weekend, here we come!

ABC = Alotta Bastardy Cancellations

Posted in ABC, Humor, NBC, TV with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 22, 2008 by sgottahurt

The brasstards over at ABC have done the apparently inevitable: they’ve cancelled Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, and Eli Stone.  So we’ll be realistic about each one and give the Good News and the Bad News for each decision.

Pushing Daisies

  • Good News – Creator/writer Bryan Fuller will likely return to NBC’s Heroes to save their asses.  Also, they might do a theatrical version to wrap up the show’s loose ends.  Then there’s always the possibility of Fuller creating a new Star Trek show…
  • Bad News – The show was hitting a solid stride in terms of creativity and clarity (the season’s first few episodes were a little bit all over the place), so it’s sad to see that it didn’t find an audience.  It also doesn’t help that it was bumped for two weeks.  But the worst news is the final episode to air is a cliff-hanger.  Let’s hope for that movie!

Dirty Sexy Money

  • Good NewsBlair Underwood at least was recognized by People Magazine as one of the Sexiest Men Alive before his show died?  One less Baldwin (William) and Sutherland (Donald) on TV?
  • Bad News – None of these actors may get another job any time soon?  Seriously, they dug up an interesting cast for this show.  And it’s not to curse them – it’s just… whatever.

Eli Stone

  • Good News – No more weekly chance of George Michael singing on TV.  Also, producer/writer Greg Berlanti can have more focus when he’s working on 2010’s Green Lantern.  (To note: Berlanti also produced Dirty Sexy Money.  Talk about bad luck.)
  • Bad News – No more weekly chance of seeing Julie Gonzalo on TV.

Monday’s TV Anti-Picks

Posted in Humor, MyNetwork, NBC, The CW, TV, USA Network with tags , , , , , , , , on November 17, 2008 by sgottahurt

Since the normal guy that writes these picks isn’t doing his share, I’m going to select the absolute worst decisions to occupy your time between Jeopardy and your local evening news.

8pm – MyNetwork TV is airing a pair of reruns of the most recent remake of The Twilight Zone.  The first episode, “Tagged,” is basically like Heroes’ arc about Isaac the Painter.  An artist paints a portrait of his own demise… Oooh, scary!  The second one could be a Heroes storyline. too, which leads us perfectly into…

9pm – You thought I was going to put Heroes, but there’s something actually worse – One Tree Hill.  I didn’t even know that show was still on, to be honest.  Check it out on the CW.

10pm – I wanted to go with the series singing its swan song – My Own Worst Enemy, but I’d rather suggest watching WWE Monday Night RAW on the USA Network.  It starts at 9, so if you tune in an hour late, you’ll be totally lost!

NOTE: If you are a fan of any of these shows, my deepest condolences.  It must be hard having your mother still feed and bathe you.

NBC Looks to Clean Slate(r) Sooner Than Later

Posted in Humor, TV with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 14, 2008 by sgottahurt

The NBC Peacock is losing a few more feathers.  Since the suckfest that is “Heroes” can’t even draw in an audience for itself, the show that follows it – Christian Slater’s “My Own Worst Enemy” – is getting shit-canned.

Okay, maybe it’s getting cancelled not because of “Heroes” sucking, but because it actually sucks on its own.  (How would I know?  I never watched it.)

“Lipstick Jungle” is also getting the axe.  (I wanted to put axe-wound, but that would have been in bad taste, right?)

Do you have any cheese?

Do you have any cheese?

“Knight Rider,” which also bites dust is still going.  It might have been moderately watchable if Will Arnett had been the voice of KITT as originally planned.  (They gave the job to the fat guy from that garbage musical “The Ten Commandments.”  How do I know it was crap?  Because it’s a musical of “The Ten Commandments!”)

Sad news/ glad news: If ABC doesn’t renew “Pushing Daisies” (sad news), creator Bryan Fuller will return to be “Heroes” hero (glad news).  (He wrote the first season’s awesome HRG-focused episode, “Company Man.”)

Also glad news – Brooke Shields will be free to keep making Volkswagen commercials.

So Hot

This photo courtesy of a Vanity Fair photo shoot

We at tvismyiv want to make sure you watch what you need to watch.  Each day we will post what you should watch live (keep in mind live means dvr and start watching once you can fast forward through the commercials which is usually 15 per one hour long show), dvr, and if we don’t mention it don’t watch it.

If you are like me you have the tv on 24/7, but for those of you with jobs you will start around 6:00pm EST: leave it on ESPN. Tonight’s match up may have been good if Tom Brady was playing and the Patriots were the Patriots of old (old being last year when they couldn’t be stopped by anyone except Manning, and not Peyton, Eli in the Super Bowl). It is still Monday Night Football and you should at least listen to the pregame as they try and hype up this awful match up.  I will be skipping the actual game tonight in favor of other programming.

8:00pm EST

Big Bang Theory (live) CBS– This show really appeals to the nerd in all of us, or to those of us that pretend we are totally awesome but are really just geeks.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (DVR) FOX – This show is constantly rumored to be getting cancelled but I like it because of Summer Glau (photo at top).

Dancing with the Stars ABC – Even I am not that big of a loser.  If you watch this you are either a chick, a man forced by a chick (can you say whipped), a man that enjoys the company of other men, or a certain poster at www.monkeyblogmonkeydo.com (don’t get me wrong great blog just the guy may be a bigger loser than me….maybe)

Chuck (DVR/Live) NBC – Watch Big Bang Theory then go right over to Chuck.  Apparently Nicole Richie is on tonight and that interests me.  Could she be the shark that Chuck is going to jump?  I watch this show because it is a one hour comedy and who doesn’t watch a half hour sitcom and want more like Thanksgiving dinner.  Also there are always lovely coeds on (Nicole Richie excluded).

8:30pm EST

How I Met Your Mother (DVR) CBS – This show has become pretty popular and I haven’t fully committed to it so I dvr it and watch it when I have time.  I then can fit in at the bar when everyone talks about television shows (what do you mean that not what happens at bars…that explains why the lady friends always give me the cold shoulder).

9:00pm EST

Heroes (DVR) NBC – I know most people watch this live or at least the same night but we recommend recording several and waiting a few weeks and watching several at once.  Trust me, it is like watching one of those comic book movies that have become so popular in recent years.

Two and a Half Men (DVR) CBS – See How I Met Your Mother

Prison Break (DVR) FOX – This show got me hooked when they were actually breaking out of prison.  Now they are chasing some black book of some “company” that runs the world.  The writers of this show are started to be as bad as Mel Gibson in “Conspiracy Theory”.

10:00pm EST

My Own Worst Enemy (DVR) NBCChristian Slater on tv enough said.

Boston Legal (DVR) ABCMurphy Brown and Captain Kirk in a show about legal stuff…I watch periodically but don’t plan on me talking about it often.

CSI: Miami CBS – There is only one CSI in my book and that is one takes place in a little place called Las Vegas.

Raising the Bar (DVR) TNT – Anything with Zach Morris and I am there.  Just like when he was on “the Blue” I will watch every episode waiting for Albert Clifford “AC” Slater and Samuel “Screech” Powers to come help him out.

11:00pm EST

ESPN (Live) – Time to see if Jay Cutler got me the 90 points I need to win my Fantasy Football match up….it could happen….stop laughing….

***note – if you have a show you would like us to talk about post a comment and we will try, unless the show is awful in which case we will just make fun of that show and you.
