A Look at TV on DVD from A to Z

If you’re like me, sitting at home thinking, “Boy, I really wish I had a TV show on DVD that corresponded with every letter of the alphabet,” then you’re in luck because I have the list for you:

  • Arrested Development (all three seasons)   
  • Big Brother (Season 7) 
  • Curb your enthusasim (Season 5… “Pretty, Pretty Good.”)
  • Dead Like Me (both seasons)
  • Entourage (all seasons)
  • Flight of the Conchords (“Who’s the mothaflippin’… I’m the mothaflippin’…”)
  • Golden Girls (any season but the Golden Palace season)
  • How I Met Your Mother (just for Barney alone)
  • In Living Color
  • Jim Hensons: The Storyteller (but if that’s not your thing, go with Jackass: The Complete Series)
  • Kitchen Confidential (stick with Season 1)
  • Lost (all seasons) or Life Goes On
  • Masters of the Universe (season 2) or any season of Mr. Show 
  • Nip Tuck (Season 1- simply for the ladies)
  • Office (all seasons)
  • Pee Wee Playhouse (any season)
  • Quantum Leap
  • Reno 911 (any season before the movie)
  • Sopranos (Season 3 for the Pine Barrons episode alone)

For those of you who don’t know,Upright Citizens Brigade is the best Comedy Central tv show ever. If you are not hip enough to know about this show do your self a favor and pick it up on dvd. This is where i first became aware of the comedic genuis that is Amy Pohler.

This great clip is from a short lived comedy sketch show I used to watch growing up.  “Haywire” was a Fox show that ran from 1990-1991.  Gotta love a story about a boy and his slug.

Friday’s TV Picks

Just to let you know, not even I expect anyone to watch television live on a Friday.  Therefore, everything discussed is for DVR.

8:00pm EST

I got nothing for you.

9:00pm EST

Crusoe NBC – Last week we met Crusoe, his friend on the island Friday, some pirates, and some Spanish guys.  The pirates and the Spanish guys united to try and find a treasure on the island, and Crusoe and Friday tried to stop them.  We also got minimal back story on the characters.  If the show follows that format, I feel we are doomed for a episode of nothing but back story.

Life NBC– A quirky cop, who was falsely accused of murder, and a hot partner, Sarah Shahi (pictured above). 

Numb3rs CBS – Math and crime solving, I dare you to find a better combination.

News and Rumors

While waiting for Survivor to start, I spent some time on www.ew.com. 

Nathan Lane is signed on to appear in ‘Till Death as Brad Garrett’s character’s gay brother.

Dan Byrd, that kid from Aliens in America on CW, is going to appear in Heroes Volume 4: Fugitives on NBC.

Macaulay Culkin is going to be on Kings on NBC.  Also to to appear are Brian Cox, Miguel Ferrer, Michael Stahl-David, and Leslie Bibb.  The show is Starring Ian Mcshane, Allison Miller, Sebastian Stan, and Susanna Thompson.

The World Series won Wednesday’s ratings battle.  Dirty Sexy Money was down slightly, while Pushing Daisies, Knight Rider, and Lipstick Jungle were all down more significantly.  Gary Unmarried had a slight gain, while The New Adventures of Old Christine, Private Pracice, Criminal Minds, and CSI: NY all had either increases or stayed strong.

Thursday’s TV Picks

Back by popular demand…not really, I just have nothing else to do but write this.

8:00pm EST

World Series Fox – Is it bad, that it is only game 2, and I am already bored?  I guess it is true, you really do need big market teams in the finals.

Survivor: Gabon (Live) CBS – Tonight, according to the previews, Sugar is going to give the immunity idol to Ace.  I am sure this will be ripped on discussed tomorrow.

My Name Is Earl (DVR) NBC – This would be my least favorite NBC Thursday night comedy if it weren’t for Kath & Kim (DVR) – This show has potential.  It just depends if it will make it long enough to reach that potential.

9:00pm EST

The Office (Live) NBC – Best NBC comedy. Not quite as good as the BBC version (I must confess, there is something very funny about British comedy, maybe it is the accents).

SNL Update (Live) NBC (9:30) – Is it wrong that I look forward to Saturday Night Live more on Thursdays than on Saturdays?

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (DVR) CBS – Some of you may know, this is the only CSI that I count.  The others are not even on my radar.

10:00pm EST

ER (DVR) NBC – Like many people I watched in the beginning and fell off for awhile.  This is the last season so I am watching again.  Plus I have a thing for Linda Cardellini (pictured above).

Eleventh Hour (DVR) CBS– To be honest with you, I have not watched an episode yet but they are saved on my DVR.  One day I will get to them and see if I should keep it in the rotation.

Life on Mars (Live) ABC– I love this show.  That’s a lie, I am cautiously optimistic of this show.  I am a little confused.  How long can  they carry this, stuck in the past from a concussion thing, going on?  If they figure that out, without some crazy Lost like explanation, then I will love this show.

Knight Rider Got picked up for a full season today. The good news here is it gives me a hour a week to watch something other than Knight Rider.

Good new is Dextor gets picked up for 2 more seasons
